Cardboard Warriors Patreon

I've started a Patreon make a few things more self-sustaining, there is absolutely no obligation to join. :)

Hello you can call me Squirmydad and I am the current steward of the Cardboard Warriors kingdom. Many artists start Patreons to raise funds to support their work and to directly engage with their fans, this is not one of those Patreons. This is a Patreon that I am starting so that I can continue to support the work of paper miniature and paper model artists. I run a forum called Cardboard Warriors;

and a website;

The website is chock full of all sorts of free downloads and tutorials and has been added to on a monthly basis since 2008. Most of what is on the site comes from the Forum and all of the great artists who share their work there. Every month there is a different theme that artists can submit their works to called the Forum Hoards, you may have seen them on Instagram. :) Additionally there is an annual competition called the Papercuts Showcase with a variety of categories whose winners are chosen by the community and receive actual cash prizes.

Many community members have approached me and offered to assist with funds for the Forum, the site, and the Showcase, which is why I've started this Patreon. If you would like to support these endeavors and potentially help them grow then do sign up for this Patreon.

How much does all of this cost;

Cardboard Warriors Forum storage= $72.00/year

One Monk site= $354.00/year

Papercuts prizes= $310.00/annual

Total expenses = $736.00/year

What do you get for supporting this Patreon? Satisfaction that you are assisting a community of artists. :) Maybe I can make some Patreon exclusive downloads, but no promises, I'd rather continue contibruting to the publicly available Forum Hoards.

If you would like to support me directly you can purchase my products here;

Thank you for your time and interest. Cheers! :)

Merloms Invade House of Hopkins!

Nikloveland has collated, layout, pdf's, cut-files, and made a  lovely photo of Aaron Hopkins free Merloms works. Get them here; http://onemonk.com/aaron-gallery.html

 I realize that I am behind in uploading the Forum Hordes from Spring, April's will be up this week.

Xtea's horses

The guest artist section has been updated with a collection of Horse miniatures by the wonderful artist Xtea.

Monolithis stones uploaded

Once upon a time I wanted to make a bunch of stone obelisks and platform blocks that would be reminiscent of a ruined city. Then for some reason I forgot to upload my work, seven years ago...Anyways, it's here now;

The Empire shall be reborn!

Campaign update: I've recovered from being speechless at the incredible generosity of this community. :D
With all of the funds that were raised due to donations and my sales I was able to purchase a new Macbook Pro, it's a pretty nifty workhorse. However, the massive changes in OS means that none of my old programs work on it. Boo! Fortunately, during that first week of despair I purchased a ten-year-old surplus iMac* and updated the heck out of it. Unfortunately, there's only so far you can go with a 32 bit first generation pentium iMac; it runs my old powerpc apps but not my newer web design app, but that one runs on the machine, yay! Since I got the new machine I've been learning how everything works and teaching myself how to use replacement apps and creating new mental workflows and rhythms. I looked at how Photoshop works now, and when I got done laughing, (a monthly subscription? Hah!) I downloaded Gimp and purchased Pixelmator from the App store. Both are quite good replacements for Photoshop and the prices are nice; free and cheap.
Now that I'm getting handle on the new setup I'm returning to work on the Desert Legion Outpost freebie, I should have a test model available in a week. My plans after that are to finish my fold-flat staircase model for oldschooldm's project and then get some Hordes uploaded to onemonk.com as I'm running behind in that area.
Thanks again to everyone!

Much love,
~Eric

Victory is within our grasp!

Fantastic!
Between GoFundMe, my sales, and the donations from the papermodel publishers from their weekend sales I'll be replacing my machine! I have been overwhelmed this past week, not just with the donations, which are great and helped me achieve this goal, but with all of the wonderful and encouraging things that people have said to me and about me. Thank you doesn't feel big enough for the depth of gratitude I'm feeling right now.

Don't send any more money! I'm good. I'm great.
Love to all of you. :D

Ways to help replace a laptop

http://www.gofundme.com/pmlcpg
I've started a gofundme campaign to try and raise funds to replace the laptop.

Don't want to send money? No problem! Both Okumarts and fat Dragon Games are doing special sales next sunday March 29th with the proceeds going towards a replacement laptop. I'll also be running a 30% off sale for 30 days starting next sunday the 29th of March on the entire line of Mayhem in Paper and One Monk Miniature products. That way you'll recieve something for your money instead of just my gratitude. All help is appreciated

Website stable but laptop dead

TLDR version;
My Macbook Pro died a horrible unexpected death last monday and I no longer have a functional work machine for projects nor do I have the funds to replace it.

The more wordy version;
After some creative work I was able to extract all of the important bits and tuck them away on my backup drive, so everything is intact, just mostly inaccessible right now. I can't buy a new machine for quite some time as my bank accounts are empty due to losing an insurance appeal when my insurance company refused to pay for one of my daughters therapies. I have an old iMac (1st generation pentium) that I'm trying to work with, but it's extremely clunky and it's OS won't run the new web design app I just recently purchased to restore onemonk.com. There's been a slew of other really stupid and expensive incidents this week but those are the main ones.

I can't update the site, I can't update the forum banner, and I don't know if I can finish any of the projects I've been working on.

I've been pretty down this week as things just kept getting worse, but at the end of it I remind myself that I still have job, a house, and most of my health.

The forum has able moderators so that house is in good hands.
The Papercuts showcase will happen in August.
The forum hoards will totter along I'm sure, I just won't be able to do the layouts and uploads for some time.

Take care all,
-Eric

Website re-renovated...again

I'm finishing a major revamp of the onemonk.com website again as it turned out that the iWeb program that I've been using for nine years wasn't exporting files correctly anymore. I've purchased an app called Everweb and rebuilt the site. As a part of the rebuild I've further consolidated the downloads available on the site so the direct links for bases, terrain, movement tray and tutorials are all on the Downloads Central page.

I've also finished the galleries for the Papercuts 2011 and 2012 showcases and added the Alien Hunters parts file to the tutorials section.

Speaking of Papercuts, there will be a slight expansion in categories this year to include print & play games, more specifics on that soon.

One Monk Downloads section renovated

Hey all, I've been working on updating and renovating the Downloads section at onemonk.com and I just finished adding in the Hill Martian mods that I used to learn Photoshop eleven years ago. The section is still a work in progress, particularly the Papercuts area, so stay tuned.

Hoard #117 uploaded!

At long last, and somewhat overdue, Forum Hoard #117 has been uploaded to onemonk.com, along with a snazzy pic of Dryw's Imperfect Motorcycles;
http://www.onemonk.com/FH-2014.html
http://www.onemonk.com/Dryw_Gallery_2.html

Alien Invasion week: Precursors Vs. Chimera Hybrids!

The Dread Legion has marched on by and this week we return to cosmic conflicts with the blood-soaked child warriors of a vanished, ancient cosmic race battling an ever-mutating ravenous horde. The Chimera Hybrids adapt, assimilate, and devour all lifeforms they encounter. The Precursor Warlords are the homicidal child-warriors left behind when their ancient parent race ascended into cosmic godhood. Later this winter you'll be seeing reinforcements for both of these races.

In site news I'm working on a new section for the Imperfect Creations of Dryw the Harper;

http://www.onemonk.com/Dryw_Gallery.html
Not much to see there right now, but in the near future the thousands of sets (okay, it's more like eighty) he's created will be up as free downloads. The biggest roadblock to getting this page, besides my free time to work on it, is photos of all of the sets. If you have photos of Imperfect sets that are 800x600 in size (or can be successfully cropped thereto) then do please send me a link.

Warrior Bugs!

Not a new model, in fact quite an old paper model, butthe first Jim Hartman model that I ever built and the the piece that made me say, "Hey, this looks like fun!" The first piece I built was a free download of an English country home from Fiddler's Green that I used for 1/72nd scale WW2 miniature battles. They're great folks over there, pop in and have a look;
http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/

It was in searching for more paper models that I came across this beauty years ago and I am very happy to restore it to the downloads section. Check it out!

Monstrous Multitudes arise!

I know these aren't necessarily Halloween themed sets, buut everybody needs more monsters, particularly when they're Kobolds, Ogres, Golems, and a side of Berserkers. Check into my shop at One Book Shelf to pick them up;
http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=4300

More new-old kits up at One Monk.com, I'll keep adding things to the Downloads page as they get unearthed or revamped. Let me know if there's something specific you're looking for that I haven't reloaded yet. http://onemonk.com/Home.html

One of the questions I've been getting about the future is, "Are you just going to re-release all of the old stuff and then call it a day?" Well, I wasn't quite asked like that, but the answer is no, there is more to come. After all of the old kits are back on-line I will be releasing what I'm calling expansions and completions for the different lines. Particularly for the Elf army; they'll be getting cavalry and light infantry expansions and some forest creature helpers. I want the Elven Alliance to be able to go toe-to-toe with the Undead Horde on the tabletop. At some point next year the Orcs and Goblins will be getting some reinforcements, the Skelebots will be getting some heavier support in January, the Chimera Hybrids will be getting their heavy supports in December, next spring will also see expansions for the Terra Force Marines and Elite Marines with special and heavy weapons troops, and more post-apocalyptic sets for some Wasteland warfare. My personal focus is on sci-fi so the releases are going to be weighted heavier in that direction, my apologies to the Fantasy mini fans out there. Mayhem in Paper will also continue to produce Steamtanks and soon some scenery kits.
Whew!

Sound ambitious? I'd certainly hope so. :) I've gotten a great deal of the maintenance and infrastructure of the new organization completed so I'm able to devote more time to the art side of the business now, which feels great!

March of the Undead

Halloween's coming up so it's time to bring out the Undead! There will be all sorts of undead and monsters being released all month long to help you get in the spirit of the season. :)

onemonk.com is getting closer to completion; the majority of the free downloads from the skilled hand of Jim Hartman and the Forum Hoards from 2008-212 are up. Be sure to check them out and if you see some issue on the site pop in at the forum and let me know about it;

This weeks ghastly releases available at DrivethruRPG

Townsfolk and Convention reflections

With Halloween approaching it's time to start rolling out some appropriate undead sets and potential victims for the otherworldly spirits. This week sees the re-release of the Grave Robbers, Gargoyles & Gravestones, and both Male and Female Tavern Patrons sets. As always, these fine paper miniature sets are available from One Book Shelf - Mayhem in Paper

Work and re-work continues on the main One Monk site, feel free to post observations and requests in this thread at the Cardboard warriors Forum - One Monk site progress

The Halloween Forum Hoard ends tomorrow morning! If you are making something for this Hoard get it posted tonight! Forum Hoard #108

This last weekend I set up a sales booth at the Senshi-Con Anime convention to sell One Monk and Mayhem in Paper models and miniatures. It was great fun but I lost money on the event, but it wasn't a gaming convention and I wasn't selling anything anime related so I'm not really surprised. There was a lot of positive feedback though and the convention as a whole was great fun. I'll be posting a 'What I Learned at Senshi-Con" post later this week when I'm not so tired.

One Monk Dot Com back online!

  For those of you just joining the party One Monk Miniatures has been purchased by Mayhem in Paper. Site re-construction is still under way so I apologize for the broken and incomplete bits. I promise that all of the great content that was there before will return.
  The site will no longer be a store though and all purchases of One Monk Miniatures will be handled by the fine trio of One Book Shelf's online vendors.

For more information pop into the forum at Cardboard Warriors.

Sanity Studios and their great line of products can still be found online;

Final countdown to Papercuts 2013!

Submissions for the Papercuts 2013 Showcase are due monday the 26th by the close of business hours. Tuesday morning I start building the voting polls so late entries will not be accepted.

Don't be this finger.

I've been a bit under the weather this week and onemonk.com is still offline, again I apologize.
If there is a specific download, like bases that you are looking for just email me or comment here or
PM me at the Cardboard Warriors forum and I'll get you fixed up.

The future of onemonk.com is that it will not be a storefront, maybe when I retire and have a lot of time on my hands, but not for the for-seeable future. One Monk Classic products will continue to be re-released at the One Book Shelf vendor co-op. If you purchased a One Monk product previously either through OBS or onemonk.com and want a DL link to the re-release, just contact me with some kind of proof-of-purchase and I'll fix you up.

Remember: finish your entries!
See you monday. :)

September Hoard!

Hi Warriors,

Boffo the Sane here. Now that it is November, I thought I should announce that the September Hoard is available on the OneMonk website. Please take a look!

Some of you may be wondering what became of Jim, since he sold OneMonk to Sanity Studios. Well, I'm sorry to say that we had to kill him, he knew too much. Wait, no...that was someone else. Jim is just fine, in fact, now that he doesn't have to run the website, he has more time to do what he loves the most, which is create things. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing more from Jim very soon.

In other news, the new Monster Pack from Sanity Studios is now available for sale at sanitystudios.com. I have seen it, naturally, and I have to tell you that it is fantastic! Feel free to buy it multiple times - it makes a great wedding gift!

TTFN

-Boffo
